The BGS Cannon

There’s a mystery at the school, long spoken about, and remembered amongst our oldest Old Boys. It’s the story of a missing cannon that has become part of the school’s history. At the end of World War I, BGS was gifted a captured Ottoman Cannon by the government and for years it sat outside the Tower. Then it disappeared. Incredibly, it may have been discarded and buried as landfill on the oval during works there. Where? No one truly remembers… until now, maybe. At a school reunion, the topic came up leading to Andy McGuigan (OB 1948), drawing a map on an envelope, and with works being undertaken again on the Crowther Oval, there was the opportunity for to try to find the cannon!
